When to say, NO.

Having a good rapport with students doesn't mean wasting the time of the class. Setting targets and goals at the beginning of each day, knowing when to say no, and time management are crucial as they are teens as their sneaky ways to waste time and open endless discussions at the wrong time. SAY NO and explain after the class. That's my advice to me….:D .....A hectic week.

  1. I go with you that we need to SAY NO because when they just enquire about our CBL project or about their trip, a big gossip starts in the class and they think that it will last forever until I shout out enough and postpone their enquiries to the break time which they don't like to sacrifice so they don't show up.
actually it's a burden to sit with them during break time but it's better than wasting the class's time, even if we're sacrificing our rapport but I think that the student will appreciate our listening and our sharing to his problems and will feel the importance of the class's time and respect it.

  2. Can time really be wasted? Or is it that some other goal is being achieved? I never say I am lost...I am always discovering something new. A trip down an unplanned path can be even more rewarding because of our discoveries. So when our students encourage us to "get off track" during class, it is our job as teachers to ALWAYS link those discussions back to what you intended for them to learn that day. In doing so, they would have learned a lot from you and you from them.
